Ferrari 348 Underbody Restoration & Dry Ice Blasting
This Ferrari 348 received a complete underbody restoration at EVOGENIC, carried out to the highest standards with meticulous attention to its original factory finish. Full underbody dry ice blasting and wax removal prepared the underside for abrasive rust removal, targeted rust treatment, epoxy priming and detailed refinishing.
The finishing detail was the protection itself. We extensively researched the underbody waxes Ferrari applied when the car was new, then matched the original finish, coating characteristics and OEM appearance using advanced current day protection products.
Explore the work below, from the first cleaning stage to the restored components and carefully matched wax finish.

Starting condition/issues
Areas of rust and corrosion
Rust and corrosion affected areas of the Ferrari’s underbody, compromising surface condition and protective finishes. These concerns were important to the vehicle’s long-term preservation as well as its appearance.
Failed original factory wax
The original Ferrari underbody wax had failed in affected areas, weakening its protective barrier against moisture and road contamination. Its deterioration also disrupted the underside’s distinctive factory finish.
Dirt & Oil Build-Up
Accumulated dirt and oily residue covered the engine and drivetrain, obscuring its original finishes and details. This contamination made the engine’s external condition harder to inspect clearly.
Damaged Component Finishes
Damaged paint, protective coatings and corrosion issues detracted from individual components original appearance. Where these finishes were compromised, the underlying surfaces had reduced protection against moisture and corrosion.
How We Restored the Ferrari 348 Underbody
1.
Detailed Inspection & Factory Finish Planning
The owner’s brief for this Ferrari 348 underbody restoration was clear.. make the car look as though it had just left the factory, with original Ferrari parts, authentic finishes and meticulous attention to OEM detail.
We inspected the underbody, chassis and associated components, assessing areas of rust and corrosion, failed factory wax, dirt and oil contamination, and damaged component finishes. This established what needed attention and defined the scope for dry ice blasting, rust treatment, component restoration and underbody protection.
Factory accuracy guided the planning. We extensively researched Ferrari’s original underbody waxes, establishing the appearance, finish and coating properties the replacement protection needed to match. The aim was a faithful restoration of the Ferrari’s factory presentation, using advanced current protection products while respecting its original parts and character.

Full Underbody Dry Ice Blasting & Underseal Removal
The restoration included a full underbody dry ice blast to clean the underside and prepare it for the work that followed.
Automotive dry ice blasting uses solid carbon dioxide propelled by compressed air. The dry ice turns into gas during cleaning, so the blasting medium introduces no abrasive grit or process water. Removed contamination still requires collection.
For this project, cleaning provided a clearer view of the surfaces beneath the existing contamination and protection. It helped establish the condition of the underside before corrosion preparation and refinishing.
The cleaning approach must suit the surface, the condition of its existing finish and the restoration objective. That control is particularly important when working on a vehicle whose original presentation needs careful consideration.

Abrasive Rust Removal and Targeted Treatment
A clean surface and a surface prepared for restoration are different stages of the work. Once the underside had been cleaned, affected areas underwent abrasive rust removal and targeted rust treatment.
Dry ice cleaning exposed the surfaces; the separate abrasive process addressed established corrosion. Targeted rust treatment formed part of the preparation before rebuilding the coating system.
The quality of an underbody restoration depends on this preparation. We gave the work beneath the finished coating the same attention as its visible appearance, completing the corrosion-treatment stages before epoxy primer and paint were applied.

4.
Epoxy Primer for the Underbody and Components
With cleaning and corrosion preparation complete, epoxy primer was applied to the underbody and components. This established the foundation for the subsequent paint and protective finishes.
The sequence matters: the primer followed dry ice blasting, factory wax removal, abrasive rust removal and targeted treatment. Each stage prepared the way for the next.
By the time the Ferrari received its final wax protection, the underlying surfaces had already been cleaned, treated, primed and refinished. That preparation is a substantial part of the restoration, even where the finished wax covers it.

Repainting and Component Restoration
The next stage brought the Ferrari’s underside back together visually. Underbody and chassis sections were repainted, while the components received restoration, repainting and recoating.
Individual parts received the same care as the broader underbody sections. Their finishes were considered alongside the surrounding areas, keeping the overall presentation consistent with the restoration brief.
This was where meticulous preparation became visible in the completed surfaces. The refinishing work established the appearance beneath the carefully matched wax protection that followed.

Ferrari OEM Underbody Protection Wax
The final wax was a particularly important detail on this Ferrari 348. We extensively researched the underbody waxes Ferrari applied at the factory when the car was new, including their original appearance and coating characteristics.
We then matched the original finish, relevant wax properties and OEM appearance using advanced current protection products. Colour, texture and sheen all contributed to the finished result.
Full underbody protection completed the restoration. The result combines renewed protection with the carefully researched appearance of Ferrari’s original wax finish, carrying the project’s attention to detail through to its final layer.
