Wooden Beam Restoration

The project began with a detailed inspection and condition assessment of the timber beams within this period property. Multiple layers of paint, staining and historic coatings had concealed the natural appearance of the wood and made it difficult to assess the condition of the underlying timber. By evaluating the extent of contamination and existing coatings, we were able to develop a tailored dry ice blasting and timber restoration strategy designed to safely remove unwanted materials while preserving the character, integrity and architectural significance of the original beams.

Before dry ice blasting commenced, the work area was carefully prepared to protect surrounding surfaces, furnishings and architectural features within the property. Appropriate protection measures were implemented to ensure a clean, controlled and respectful restoration process, giving the homeowner complete confidence throughout the project. By taking the time to properly prepare the environment, we were able to safely carry out timber beam restoration and paint removal works while minimising disruption and preserving the condition of the surrounding property.

With the preparation complete, dry ice blasting was used to carefully remove layers of paint, surface staining and accumulated contamination from the timber beams. Unlike other aggressive methods, dry ice blasting enabled us to clean the wood with precision while preserving the natural grain, texture and character of the original timber. As the coatings and paint were removed, the true condition of the beams was revealed, restoring their appearance and creating the foundation for long-term timber preservation within this period property.

Following dry ice blasting and the careful removal of paint, staining and coatings, the wooden beams were successfully restored to reveal the natural character of the original wood beneath. What was once concealed beneath years of build-up is now clean, exposed and ready to be appreciated once again, enhancing both the appearance and authenticity of this period property. This project demonstrates how dry ice blasting can be used to safely restore wooden beams, remove unwanted paint and coatings and support the long-term preservation of historic and heritage properties without compromising the integrity of the original timber.
